The Union Cabinet on Tuesday cleared a presidential reference against the Supreme Court judgement on 2G spectrum allocation.

Headlines Today accessed the presidential reference, which was likely to be filed in the next couple of days.

Solicitor general Ghoolam Vahanwati made a presentation to the Cabinet on the need for presidential reference against the apex court's judgement on 2G.

In addition to a review plea that was admitted by the apex court last week, the government wants to bring about the presidential reference. It was of the opinion that reference would be extremely important for the fate of practically all telecom licenses issued to private players because the SC judgement puts question on the entire policy under which licenses were issued to telecom operators since 2003.

The presidential reference might also question the apex court's jurisdiction on commenting on a policy matter.
